Pretty Flowers For Mother
Pretty flowers for Mother,
To give her on Mother’s Day.
May offers many choices,
Found in earth’s splendid bouquet.
Roses are always lovely.
Tulips are beautiful too.
Violets, orchids and lilies,
All kissed by sweet heaven’s dew.
Lilacs long to be chosen;
Showy irises and more.
They all are simply bypassed
While browsing the flower store.
For Mom’s a simple woman;
Extravagance is not her style.
Choosing one most overlooked,
A flower that makes her smile.
You see, Mother loves her mums,
Each year it’s always the same;
Mom says mums are her first choice,
For both share the same nickname.
I was thinking about my mother and how she loved flowers… flowers and plants of all varieties. When we would take her for a tour of some place which boasted flower gardens, if she spotted one she that she didn’t have at home, she would ask the owner if she could take a break from it. She would take it home and amazingly with her green thumb bring it to life and add to her collection. She knew them all and talked to them and like obedient children; to her they yielded their best.
Mothers are like flowers, all different and unique in their own way, but in the same way they add their beauty and fragrance to this old world making it a much sweeter place to live.
I dedicate this poem to my mom who has passed from this life into life eternal, and I’m sure she is enjoying Heaven’s beautiful and grand flower gardens. I hope you enjoy, Loyd
As a lover of flowers, (and a mother) I find this poem to be exceptionally beautiful. I never met a flower I didn't like! And like your mother, I like to get cuttings and propagate them in my own garden. Love, gardening and poetry.... what more does one need......
