It may have all started as a dream
When an inspired thought brought a gleam
Of poetic flair primed to ignite
To free your thoughts in expressive flight
Or a stirring poem touched your soul
With soothing hopeful lines to console
That persuaded you to do likewise
And test your talent to poetize
Your early tries may be simple lines
By getting started, you'd done fine
There are many ways to reach your aims
Only persistence will bring you fame
With time, you will develop your style
And finally, to bring you a smile


Free Verse will allow your thoughts to flow
Without constrains for your heart to glow
A Ballade long with a tale to tell
To bewitch us all under its spell
Try an Epic with a myth to knit
The tales of a fabled favourite
Write a Blues Sonnet that can be sung
Sure to be a hit among the young
Or a Ghazal from the Muslim world
With a wealth of erotica pearled
Limericks risqué will be a hit
But you will require to have some wit
And a short Haiku will say it all
When time is not there for you to call

You can bemoan, a love won and lost
Or of battles won but at great cost
You can bring hope to those in despair
And with kindly words, show that you care
You can bring roses to any room
With colours and scents to lift the gloom
You can take us all to places far
To the ruins of Rome or a bazaar
You can paint pictures of weather foul
Of bleak midwinter and winds that howled
You can take us through the seasons four
From breezy spring till cold winter called
You can bring us close to fauna wild
To creatures endearing or reviled

When a poem in your mind comes by
A chance for your poetic skills to try
Then only can you become aware
Of your eloquence and talent rare
