Please Don't Go Far Poem by Mark Heathcote

Please Don't Go Far

Please don't go far
because imminent danger lies ahead
no matter where you are
detonation and destruction
are dancing in a full circle at the gates
soon to be joined by stars and violins.
Soon to make an arms deal
the dead are inverted once again
wanting medals pinned to their chest
wet and bloody, it's all a game
loving you, but darling
please don't go far
because I'm a skulking actress, a diva too.
And I can see right through you.
And to be honest, even though at times I don't like you
I want to sleep in your arms.
And feel like I'm in imminent danger
of detonating your heart with a simple spark.
And finding I am falling in love.
Soon to be joined by stars and violins blinding my eyes.
Ear wadding our last swan song.
Shell shock, I find I can't find my feet once again.
