Patriotism Was On Their Side Poem by Randy McClave

Patriotism Was On Their Side

My forefathers fought in the American revolution
Them being patriots was the solution,
They served, they fought and they died
Patriotism was on their side.

My grandfathers fought in World War 1
They fought so democracy would carry on,
They served, they fought and they died
Patriotism was on their side.

My father and uncles fought in World War II
They fought for the Red, White and Blue,
They served, they fought and they died
Patriotism was on their side.

My uncle and cousins fought the Korea war
They screamed communism no more,
They served, they fought and they died
Patriotism was on their side.

My brother and cousins fought in Vietnam
They did as what they were told by Uncle Sam,
They served and they fought and they died
Patriotism was on their side.

My family salutes all soldiers living and dead
And to all POW'S they bow their head,
They served and they fought and they died
Patriotism was on their side.

My kin stood against kings, emperors and dictators
They weren't cowards, turncoats or traitors,
They served and they fought and they died
Patriotism was on their side.

My clan were Federalists, democrats and republicans
They were my forefathers and their sons,
They served and they fought and they died
Patriotism was on their side.
