Paradise Poem by Annie Eggleston

Paradise

Rating: 5.0

Remember we met a year ago in paradise?
Both running from our own individual hell
I remember seeing you and thinking he must be nice
or else a dream that's just too good to tell

Did you leave because I tempted you with forbidden fruit?
or you stopped seeing your reflection in my eyes?
or because you think love is an unwinnable game
When did you start believing those lies?

Did you count me for a loss?
Was my love not enough?
Or the distance too great to fall.
Was the guilt just too heavy?
Or yourself just not ready
to open your heart at all

Once you were happy
but you had to leave it behind
lost in paradise
just a ghost in my mind

Did they make you a stranger to who you were
Were you always you, that you are, are you sure?
Just to take you and break you for the greater good
As if having a reason somehow means that you should

Did you forget me?
Was it because I was too late?
or am I not worth the wait?
I'm still waiting if you are.
I'm in love with a ghost
in paradise lost, where I found the most.
