Out At Sea Poem by David Thomas

Out At Sea

sailing the seven seas
among the quickly dying
watching slowly as the world around
creeps into the darkness of
a cold, quiet ocean roar
and the fires we all keep lit inside
aside from a few flicks,
are all but dimbly dead
the world is full of culture
full of nature and love
being away from earth and
out to sea so very much,
it leaves a man with a sense of
emptyness...
so what is to be done?
let's tell the captain he needs to set sails
everything including the winds,
to sail us on home
even if it's a long voyage
the old familiar ground beneath our feet
will be different
along with everyone we meet,
and everyone we already knew...
what then will we do?
this world offers so many questions,
where do we start?
i've just come home from sea
who is still here waiting for me
anyone? because no matter how hard i look
i am still the only one around for miles,
does this mean i am alone...
where are the people i once knew
i once loved,
i fear they are gone as relics of the past
along with my old self.
