Pawn Takes Queen Poem by David Thomas

Pawn Takes Queen

i hear stories of how people tried
i hear the story of how you try,
but life isn't made from short comings
and circumstantial differences
no no no,
life is made from one step to another
big or small we count 'em all
before long we have journeys
and triumphs,
some stumbles and some falls,
at the end of the tunnel
there will always be a light or two:
one to remind of us the past
one to take us to the rest,
in this chase of life
i'm not some fish to fry
but i'm not so high as to deny
that like a chess-game i'm a pawn,
but one day i'll take the queen.
