Our Village Poem by Rajendra padhi

Our Village

OUR VILLAGE

Perfectly little in size
A pond where I fished,
Outlasted hills in my mind
Immense songs from fields,
Days were brutal in sweat
Nights in feelings sweet,
Love grew like a rivulet
Flowing in the crevices of heart,
Heavy with milk in her breast
Bare it for everyone in thirst.

Now it sleeps in voiceless woe
As a picture in our city-museum
Cold in color, bare of music,
Mother with a veil over head
Heart breakingly stiff,
Little I see now flared there
Half eased in it how it differs,
People are driven to city
Leaving behind endurable homes,
Beaten hard like the drums now
Life like wine intoxicates mind.

Wreaths of smoke bright in light
Concern their dreams,
They sleep desperately
On the factory side
To be richer and happier,
A splendid thought,
They Search a heaven even in reverie
A noble mission on hostile ways..
