One Way Call Poem by Timothy Ko.

One Way Call

The phone doesn't ring, it's only me
Talking about things from memory
Hello. dear, just hear me out
These are words I can't go without
Please listen hard, hope this goes through
Your heart will know my love is true

I wrote a letter, I wrote a song
I know now, dear, that I was wrong
On my knees I'm begging please
Praying and wishing this is all a tease
From the start I knew for sure
That this was my fault and not yours
I'm desperate and confused without you now
Running right back if you'll allow

My heart screams out but no reply
My words are cut with a simple sigh
Pouring it all to an inanimate wall
I yearn to hear but it's a one-way call
Always wanting but always a pursuit
Can't catch you today can't even shoot
It pains me more that you know the truth
But you still choose to make an excuse

I can't do anything without you here
Feels like penetration with a spear
My bleeding heart continues to beat
Left with a scar but the feeling repeats
Forgive me please and grab my hand
So we can continue like we had planned
My tears for you impair my view
God, give me strength to continue

I'm rambling on, I know I am
My soul is pleading so you'll understand
I don't know what got the best of me
Left alone with all this dirt and debris
Come back to me so I can move on
Before the night ends before the dawn
I'm right here where I used to be
Waiting for you until insanity

A soldier stationed in another country gets a letter from his girlfriend. It's short but powerful. She tells the soldier that she wants to break up. Being in another country, the man is unable to do anything about the woman's decision. Out of frustration and pain, he talks into a broken phone saying things that he wants the woman to hear.
