One Day I Sat Upon A Stone Poem by Richard Anders

One Day I Sat Upon A Stone

One day I sat upon a stone
and thought that I was all alone
but sitting perched upon a log
my eyes beheld a little frog

He looked at me I looked at him
I did not make a sound
he made a funny little noise
then jumped on to the ground

'Good morning my dear lady
Oh please don`t run away
I`m really not a frog you know
but King of Mandalay'

'King of Mandalay you say
but you look just like a frog'
'please listen to my story dear'
then jumped back on his log

'Many many years ago
one hundred years or more
I was king of Mandalay
my Queen was Kota Kore

One day while walking by the sea
I chanced upon a floating tree
upon that tree there was a dog
and on it`s back a little frog

'Good morning sir' the frog did croak
'Good morning sir'! twas the dog who spoke!
'Good morning dog good morning frog
why are you sitting on that log'?

The frog looked up at me and sighed
'one day a ragged man I spied
he was tall and thin with a crooked nose
his beard reached right down to his toes'

'Good morning Sir' the man did say
'you are King of Mandalay'?
'That I am I`m proud to say
the fourteenth King of Mandalay'

He took a box from out his pocket
and in that box there was a locket
and in that locket I did see
a frog, a dog and a man like me!

'What does this mean? ' I asked him
'And pray, just who are you? '
'Panni Bel' the man did say
'And I am King of Mandalay'

'Oh no good sir that cannot be
for I am King thats plain to see'
'Ah yes' the bearded one did say
'in another time and another day'

Another time.........another day?
`How can that be` said I
He looked me I looked at him
he smiled and said 'Good Bye'

The moral of this story is
one day you might just see
a frog, a dog on a floating log
just smile and think of me!
