One Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

One

One

"One" was one until when
Came "Serpent"
As the guest to nation.

Serpent had blue eyes
And the skin was fair.

"One" followed the culture
Respected, fed, gave bed:
"To us guest is the same,
Equal to those who
Are born and raised here."

Guest, being an actor,
And great lecturer
With colourful clothes
As well as gunpowder,
Bowed to have belittled.

Then "O" and "N, " and "E, "
Each alone, separate
Invited the "Serpent, " to respect.

Guest and hosts had questions
Either side gave answers.

Once "Serpent" told to "O":
"O, is for oxygen and the air,
Nothing lives without them."

The other two letters
Heard quite similar.

Each of them loved serpent:
"Kind and wise is our guest."

But each of the letters
Covered, hid, some secret
"O" felt like core of life
And if goes, all are gone,
"N" and "E" saw own sides.

Though the old gatherings
Of members, families
Took place, repeated
Each of three letters
The "O" and "N, " and "E"
Saw themselves as better.

"O" left the "N" and "E"
"E" went to somewhere else
When "N" took own members.

"Serpent" was the winner,
Rode horse and travelled
Between the old friends
And fuelled the fire…

"Serpent" came from the
Places far away,
Unseen to "One's" members.

But they had stories:
"Angels come from sea,
They ride on wings of wind."

They saw that in "Serpent."

Guest never showed venom,
Hid it deep in seabed.

At first used sweet words
All about believing:
"Our saviour is coming…"

And next talk was on farm
And cattle, and milking…

Finally, facts saw light,
Serpent rounded the hosts
In cages, locked them up,
Destroyed their food and
Their herbs and way of life,
"E" and "O, " and "N" lost.

Good story. I understand exactly what you mean. The coloniser. As reknown African Writer put it....They came quite peaceable with thier religions and we amused at them. Now they have won our brothers and our clans can no longer act like one. Things fall apart.
