Once Upon A Time Poem by Bellatrix Mogos

Once Upon A Time

Once upon a time
Children danced merrily
On bright, sunny streets
No care in the world

Once upon a time
The sun shone bright
The moon like a spotlight
Shining on everyone from above

Once upon a time
The forests were alive
The gentle hum of a river
In the cool summer breeze

Once upon a time
We didn't notice the good
Until everything changed
And now we notice
Now we notice the bad

The streets are tinted grey
As are the people
Dull as our knives
Even the sun has gone out

The forest is dead
The river's path ceased
And the animals cower
Below what rules us now

The cemeteries devastate
Ashen and black
Haunted by ghosts
Of tortured pasts

People have lost their trust
Their hearts, so pure, turned black
Like colorful roses
Dead like they never were

Nothing is how it used to be
Nor will it ever be again
No matter how bad
There's no going back
