October Song Poem by Wolfgang Steinmann

October Song

In misty air the leaves alight –
Pour out the wine, the olden,
And let us make the dreary day
So golden, ah, so golden!

And if the storm is wild outside,
And holy or unholy,
The world is bright, the world is wide
And stands forever wholly.

And should the heart cry out in grief
Fill up and drain your glasses!
We know it well, a happy heart
Beats on and never passes.

In misty air the leaves alight –
Pour out the wine so olden
And let us make the dreary day
So golden, ah, so golden!

It may be fall, but give it time,
Just wait a little while!
The sky will clear and spring will come,
The violets will smile.

The glowing days will start again,
But time will yet destroy them,
So let us now, my dearest friend
Enjoy them, ah, enjoy them!
