No Excuses Poem by Wakefield Mahon

No Excuses

Here I am like it or not
What you see is all I've got
I need to admit that I'm not a saint
When pressure is high, I'm sure to faint
Yes, I've been bad and I've caused hurt
While running other names through the dirt
I'm not the perfect child
But I give no excuses!

At age 15 I wanted to hide
I contemplated suicide
Then I heard Amy say to me
I'm 'All I Ever Have to Be'
On that day I turned around
And started searching for a sound
So I could get my message out
With no excuses

My life's been a rocky one
I've had my pain. I've had my fun
One million times, I've run off track
One million times, He's brought me back
He left me in an awkward position
Gave all that I asked then gave me a mission
So I submit my work
And I give no excuses

Some people don't approve of my life
I'd say we've had our share of strife
Then I heard Amy say to me
I'm 'All I Ever Have to Be'
Therefore, I will continue to look
Through the pages of our sacred Book.
So I will know how to live
With no excuses

So you can listen to all I say
Or you can laugh and walk away
And I'll accept it either way
Because I know I can stand today
And give you no excuses
