Never Be Frightened. Poem by Geoffrey Fafard

Never Be Frightened.

It is as wondrous as it is fearful that
There are those amongst us who
Are terrified of things natural
In the bush at night they recoil
At the darkness of it all
I say why not look for fireflies
Or stars that light the way
Or a yellow moon on the rise
- -
There are those amongst us that
Are terrified at the water's edge
Cool clean water life's blood
Wallabies, goannas and little folk
Stooping to undo their fatigue
With this magic elixir
Rivers flowing seaward bound
Full of adventure, full of fishes
Full of gentle purpose
- -
There are those amongst us that
So fear the shadows of the jungle
Shadows that allay the heat
Of the hottest green and shady day
Lying under a giant ancient tree
Chewing on a sweet leaf of grass
Listening to birds of the forest
Singing for you their songs of joy
- -
There are those amongst us that
Go in fear of Mother Nature
So sad to know that we recoil
At our own earthly mother
Given to us with no strings
No pre ordained directions
To feel, love, enjoy, hold and cherish
Trust is implicit in this natural world
Soak it up lest you die forlorn.
