First a scared cry
as you came into this world.
Naked and afraid
until you met your mother's arms.
And your first gaze
it peered up toward the sky,
turning toward my smile
as you blessed me with your eyes.
As they awoke at first light,
I was changed forever.
From a love that couldn't be sought
I learned:
It must be felt,
It must be seen,
God given,
and then known.
When your eyes opened,
As did mine.
