My Soldiers Poem by breanna givens

My Soldiers

I’ve heard of Iraq and the many tragedies of Afghanistan,
People shot and gone making history where they stand.
Still the soldiers are the ones closest to me,
The ones that work real hard to fight their destiny.
It’s crazy because the Navy is something you sign up for,
Where on the other hand my soldiers live life as an everyday war.
Oh and it has nothing to do with attitude or the way one behaves,
Its just they was born with a shovel to dig their own graves.
So every day’s the same
And every day they fight to make sure it doesn’t come true,
But all they get is judgment pushed on them by you
They don’t get a silver star for their commander or chief
They receive no acknowledgement for their thick skin with the bullets underneath
Show me “Army Strong” and I’ll show you the scars of a true soldier
Show me the courageous “Marine” and I’ll show you someone bolder
So your soldiers may die for what soon will be history,
But mine lay down in vain making only a memory.
