My Land Poem by David Oladipupo Olorunshola

My Land

My Land
I am troubled over you
Though you show strength and courage
Can somebody assuage my fears
I see your future is bright
I see flashing lights everywhere
Yet it is not comforting
I wonder why it is so
I tried to make sense of it
Only in the end more confusion
What can I do about this
I do not know
Where are the elders, why have they kept silent
Have they refuse to talk
The drum beats so hard and heavy
It is clear which direction
We are heeded in trouble waters
Where are the founding fathers
What would they say to all this
Flashing lights all over the place
The ground opens up to swallow
More blood every day yet not satisfied
How do we quench your thirst for more
startled from my peaceful sleep
My inner thought not of you
These continuous flashing lights
Taking away my peace
To begin to look for answers
With no desire to sleep any more
We have prayed, we are to pray
To avert this flashing lights
I see across this land
My sleep is taking away
I see men, I see women
Jump to their death not willingly
Abrupt termination of discuss
Weeping, yelling and wailing
The sight is so frightening
Smoke and flashing lights all over
So I see upon my land
