David Oladipupo Olorunshola Poems

Why do you watch
And stand by, while being violated
Not once, but again and again
Leaving gory spectacles in your wake
...

You are not the only one
Fighting; everyone has his fight.
It is actually a fight for life;
A fight for living
...

Where is that just society?
Where is that voice of reason?
If you were dump,
It would have been excusable
...

Just before dawn
Before the sun rises,
Rising as early as possible
With the hen clucking still
...

Dreams of tomorrow; although the
Horizon may look obscure and deem
With high hopes and great expectations;
Shines bright
...

What is your colour?
How beautiful is your colour
How well and brilliant
Is the colour of love?
...

My Land
I am troubled over you
Though you show strength and courage
Can somebody assuage my fears
...

The day
Like today so bright and sunny
Where you enjoy going out
The cool breeze still blowing
...

Only once
You only live once
And with the unique opportunity
To change your world
...

10.

Will it not have been better
Not to be born at all
If blood had not been poured
And men had not sat together
...

While you are where you are
You need to rethink what you want
To do if what you are about,
Does not seems tobe working
...

The rulers go about with so
Much funfair and accolade;
From their cronies and sycophants
That parade.
...

For every runner; in shoelace
Desires to run and win the race
For some, only inspired and joy
To participate; not to be disgrace
...

Lay them by the river side;
And do not slide
And let the river carry them away;
Nor be sway
...

Oh, sleeper arise
How long will you continue
To sleep? Wake up from your
Slumber; Let your soul and
...

In the thick darkness
Having only the moon for light
The olive trees creating delight
Of huge shadows on the ground
...

Blowing from the east
Is the wheel of change
To the nooks and crannies
Of the country
...

Who can understand this
And who can prepare
And be sufficiently able
To know what to do
...

Walk not in offence
Rather practice defence
Protecting your soul and heart
Against its deadly onslaught
...

My faith, my fears
My issues, my battles
My trials, my temptations
My failures, my sins
...

Ezu River/Floating Bodies

Why do you watch
And stand by, while being violated
Not once, but again and again
Leaving gory spectacles in your wake
Where is your honour
Laying your pride to the dust
You became deformed and defamed
With no form nor colour
No one can use or touch you
Every one watches in morbid silence
Your edges are taken away
A foul odour you spread
Desecrated and polluted
Far beyond your confines
With floating members unknown
National discuss you become
A gory but strange tale
Your tears is more
Than many tears of the people
Created to cool and give comfort
Only to be turned backwards
Tormentor of the people
Oh, that you may have known
Not to compromise your nature
Nor give heed to seducers
Why do you have to embrace
That which does not augur well
Repent, that you may live
For many are laid waste at your site
To evil you concur
With no courage to rage
They lie in wait to waste
Why did you accept from them
The sacrifice of shame
Under the cover of darkness
