My Hero Poem by Kailee Falvo

My Hero

He’s over there right now,
Fighting to keep us free.
Seeing people die, maybe his friends
Fills his mind all the time.
You play video games,
He doesn’t play, he is the game.
You think its fun; you’re getting better and better
While he’s getting sadder and madder.
Life is way different from what you see
On that screen
Because in this, you can’t start over.
He’s over there fighting for his life
and all I ask is that You keep him safe.
I don’t need any more tears to hit the floor,
I just need to know that he’s all right.
But if there’s one thing I do know,
It’s that he’s my hero for life.
The sweat soaked uniform.
The dog tags dancing in the rain.
The hair he once had is shaved.
And look at those boots, spit shinned and all.
You see a soldier,
But I see my hero.
-Dedicated to my cousin Chris Yingling-
