Moving To An Island Poem by James Merchant

Moving To An Island

Winding through waves for days
and gutting
Fish and budgie skeletons litter an island
Spines that fossilize
Into a foundation as we colonize
And build our home
Our safe, sweet and happy home
with a doormat
that says
'Welcome'
while secretly not meaning it.
