James Merchant Poems

I drink round at the lid
As September peeks a weary eye
At my indecency barely hid
You buy my tie
...

2.

love is everything
it's a kiss on yr lips
a bird that sings
dew on the rosehips
...

We 3 Ghosts
Wish we never walked at all
A lovely bouquet of roses
Spells
...

I am your favorite carnivore
These fireworks spell out my name
But you have to look deeply into the sky
To see what I really mean
...

William wailed wisely
That a handful of nails
Are meant for hands and feet
And slivers to be from crosses
...

Sometimes I find myself in the shadow
Of a man in a metal mask
And I am sleeping
But I don't know that yet
...

Robots feed me lice
Shaped like specks of rice
I can't refuse
And I can't choose
...

You can call me dirt pig
For I am a friend of the earth
I have grown to live its purring hum
I feel at ease in its company
...

Render me red darling
Cause some of us just don't quit
Come back to me when you're sober
Come tell me that it's over
...

Sweet surrendering of the mind
To a subtle splinter of time
Is it worth all the snide remarks?
Is it worth these shallow stars?
...

Can you imagine the stilt-legged horses flirting with each other
When the melancholy of the moon is the loss of it's mother?
Smoke came forth and it had choked her clear blue skies
And now all the little moon does these days is cry
...

Our protagonist uses us like coathangers!
Don't blame him though...
Cause who ever understood a hero?
...

I am a tumbleweed
A mess of words
Aimless in the wind
A friend
...

14.

Well her irises find my own
In the comfortable restraints of my home
Lipstick angels in awkward angles
Grab my neck, I'm slightly strangled
...

Well tell me how you never came before
To the island across the Golden Shore
Where nothing was living, but nobody died
Opened up my skin just to hide inside
...

As a lad I was neither strong nor weak
My future never promises, but the day is never bleak
Wayward footsteps patter along
To suburban anthems drenched in wrong
...

All my would-be friends shift in the light
Till they disappear into the cold night
And I was going to befriend them soon
But tonight was the full moon
...

If I could make the sound of tiny raindrops
Would you be a better audience
I could nail your ear to a rose
I suppose
...

The loveless letters sent perilously back and forth
Are churning the iron blue seas of the north
With what they hold inside few eyes gaze upon
But you have known all along
...

The Best Poem Of James Merchant

Honey Melon

I drink round at the lid
As September peeks a weary eye
At my indecency barely hid
You buy my tie

I guess it makes me look so formal
If the hedgehog hatched his shadow
A business tie wouldn't hurt
Until I met my maker

He's a solemn maker
With honey melon eyes
From all the chaos
That churns to a satisfactory pulse

This poet's work is always intriguing - a little rough and puzzling, but always engaging. I recommend you read him and comment, at least occasionally. He deserves your attention.
