Mirror Poem by KunJung Hsiao

Mirror

When I was a child.
I saw myself in the mirror.
I laughed, he laughed,
I mourned, he followed sorrow.
The mirror is not a good painter,
As it reversed my shirt's logo.

When I grew up,
I looked for myself in the eyes of the other,
he gave me some suggestions
and tell me how to be better.
He is a good adviser,
although it was a bit distorted.

Life always offers choice,
honest or pretend,
fall or follow,
stop or step,
lost or get,
each choice, each change.

The more people I met,
the more I care about what they thought.
I have learned to follow their wishes,
and become a stranger.

Mirror, Mirror,
If you want to imitate,
why don't you figure out my mind?
tell me I'm still young,
smear my gray hair of the years,
and smooth out the wrinkles.

Mirror, Mirror,
If you want to imitate,
why don't you tell me the truth?
let me know how thorough I pretend.
I laugh with broken heart,
I feel touch but pretend not to care.

Mirror,
Maybe you are just reminding me,
When I think something right,
I should ask my heart on the left.
