Memories Poem by Valerie Lennox

Memories

Watching the moon set dipping deep orange into the sea
Smelling the night jasmine drift by on the balmy warm breeze
Hearing the nightjar call eerily for its mate
Sleepily, you reach for me

Seeing the valleys stretch away toward a blue horizon
As the sharp smell of fynbos rises in the midday haze
A lone baboon grumbles softly above in the crags
Tenderly, you reach for me

Gazing as the lowering sun paints light across the deep blue bay
The salty tang rising from the waves crash way below
A black eagle soars, its cry echoes against the mountain
Silently, you reach for me

Softly the night falls enveloping the dusty trembling trees
The last robin has ended his twilight serenade
And the pale sliver of moon shimmers shyly behind the clouds
Lovingly, I reach for you.
