Memorial Day, A Day Of Pause Poem by Marilyn Lott

Memorial Day is a day of pause
It means so many things
For many it's a day from work
Relaxing it could mean.

It is a three-day weekend so
It gives families time for barbeque
Hopefully it is sunny out
I wonder, are there plans for you?

Some of us will visit those we love
The ones who have passed away
Put flowers there to show we care
For those it is a special day.

There are many flags flying all around
For the ones who give their lives
Or gave their lives, no longer here
Leaving family, husbands and wives.

Let each of us say a prayer to God
For those who are always ready
In case they need to fight for us
They are constant, humble and steady.

Our men and women in the military
For freedom is their cause
In case they're needed they'll be there
Have put their lives on pause!
