Mediocrity Poem by naux ner

Mediocrity

Should one man say to another
Criticisms that offend
When the former struggles with questions
That he can't understand?

Should the brilliance of men
Be judged according to their deeds
Solely based on merit and work
But to the person we pay no heed?

Should fame and fortune grow
Dysregulated and left to thrive
So wealth and reputation can follow
Each man in every strife?

Should one walk away from these
And fail to seize the day
To risk the objection of many
To endure what they have to say?

For the world glorifies imperfection
And society celebrates fools
What about the wise men who toil?
To whom shall they stay true?

Mediocrity reeks of judgement
Passed down by those who crave
Nothing more but pathetic authority
Until they meet their grave
