Me And A Lonely Tree Poem by Steve A. Politte

Me And A Lonely Tree

Me And A Lonely Tree

In my loneliness I lay ever so motionless -
beside the bark of a big oak tree.
I stare into the far off universe, and wonder -
and think;
and I know that I am
engulfed in a dream.
And with nothing I make something;
many times it becomes a gift I share -
a worried look, a little smile, a hope;
a certainty that I care.
I stand beneath the clear blue sky -
as the sun has faded beyond the trees.
I glance above in the darkest of hours -
to see flickering stars wave at me.
Dreamily, I wander into their midst.
They seem not so far away.
I've returned from my journey,
to hear the words -
that the oak tree has to say:
"Welcome stranger! -
yes I'm lonely and tired,
and the world, my friends,
and even Mother Nature
have forsaken me.
I tremble when the cold November wind
blows at me, as I stare in desperation -
for the comfort of the other trees.
When the sun is warm, it makes me smile,
but it moves on behind the wintry clouds.
I will be here for a long time my friend,
so thanks for stopping by,
and if you ever get lonely,
come back again.
I get lonely too! "
