Marlee Jo And The Barbie Pole

Rating: 5.0

The two of them together
went fishing that fine day,
just Dawn and her daughter;
they didn't go far away.

A tiny little girl
with a tiny little pole
in a tiny little pond...
where? They won't tell a soul

Dawn's pole was from Cabela's;
"Abu Garcia" is what it said.
Marlee Jo's was from the toy store
and it had "Barbie" instead.

But when the big fish came to strike,
Dawn's bait it didn't take;
That big fish struck the Barbie pole
And pulled it in the lake!

Dawn leaped and tried to grab the pole
but wasn't fast enough.
How to console that little girl?
That task was really rough.

Sixty minutes came and went,
Then Dawn's line got a jerk.
She reeled and reeled to bring it in;
'Twas quite a bit of work.

Another line was snagged with hers,
and they both got their wish:
on one end was the Barbie pole,
the other had the fish!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I took a little poetic license here. I don't really know where Dawn bought her fishing pole or what brand it is, so I made that part up. The rest of this story is true as far as I understand it.
This is the same Dawn as the one in the poem 'Dawn at the Barber Shop'.
