Made For Walking Poem by Nika McGuin

Made For Walking

Rating: 2.8

It's boot season
heels equal treason
unless joined to boots in adhesion
and I don't need a reason
to watch winter reruns
no snowflakes in sight
Louisiana ground's far from white
but that's alright,
my boots are dyn-o-mite!

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

I had a funny reaction to this whimsy. When I started to read about the new boots, I took them for granted because I was visualizing the MINNESOTA landscape! Of course you're wearing boots. What's the big deal? Then I read the line about the lack of snow in LOUISIANA! And suddenly my sense of place did a somersault. It goes to show how point of view can be a trickster. And there many more serious poems about society, beliefs, values for which we have to be alert to the correct POV. Your whimsical poem taught me a valuable lesson.
