Louisiana Weather (Short) Poem by Nika McGuin

Louisiana Weather (Short)

Rating: 5.0

A sheet of wet curls lay over her face
she'd been drenched by the downpour
and her brand new shoes were indubitably ruined

Louisiana weather
could do this to a girl
one day is sunny and humid
and the next, is cold and wet

Most of your winter is hot
and most of your spring is cold
its changes can be so bold
it's the strangest weather story ever told

The opening stanza is extremely vivid imagery. This is not a Love-Hate poem about your home state. I didn't feel that kind of tension. It's a bemused take on what you have to take in stride. It's an affectionate complaint about one of the problems of your environment. (Yesterday the wind chill factor was minus 35 degrees. Weather reports on the radio warned that unprotected skin could suffer frostbite in less than 20 minutes exposure. Do you think I have a parallel poem about that MINNESOTA WEATHER (SHORT) ? No, no one wants to hear that.)

The uncertainty of the weather and by extension life is here powerfully presented!

Your poem has some wonderful imagery. I liked the summation you ended with. Good work.
