Machine Of Hope Poem by Gordon D Wilkinson

Machine Of Hope

Staring they say nothing
By the look in the eyes, they speak volumes
Pity yet mostly the fear
No need for the pity just understanding is required
One word of encouragement
Thrown in amongst the negatives
Smiling makes, you seem false
I can look past your façade
Looking deeper into the confused thoughts
Detecting all that you try to hide
Save your crocodiles tears
Just the mere hint of a smile is enough
No need for the words that you swallow
Holding them back behind the shrouded hand
To you unspeakable
It is my fight
All I need is to feel you by my side
One of the crutches available should I need support
Strength when supported is the unvanquished resolve to live
Only resolve can help in a victory
One more day of resolve
Another day fighting the pain
More time to give blessings for
Even the machine, which bombards this body, knows my fragility
Trading off the sickness for another day
Temporarily killing the coloured follicles
Shedding this lions mane
Leaving a shiny ball of taut skin
It is worth it for one more day
One more day of looking at the gaunt reflection staring back
Seeing the skeleton before
Weakened but fighting still
Hoping, just a little
Waiting for the word called remission
Ready to use every second afterwards
Filling them with precious pleasures and memories
Something to hold onto in the blacker times of the pit
Yes just one more day
Will me your strength
With just the hint of a silent smile
