Love Poem by Vera Sidhwa

Love

If I loved thee in the countless ways
That Elizabeth Browning wrote of,
And I put in all my energy to love you,
Then all the sun and all the wind
Would seem just one more part of you.

And nothing else...and nothing else.

If I counted your copper hairs one by one,
With the meticulousness of a scientist
And I took all my time to do this job,
Then all the quantities and all numbers,
would seem like your copper hair.

And nothing else....And nothing else.

If I spent all my time writing sentences about you,
With the passions and the flames of a poet in my heart,
And I carefully, planted my thoughts on paper,
then all the words and sentences
Would seem like your face and manner.

And nothing else...And nothing else.
