Love Poem by Abigail Hauschild

Love

Rating: 3.5

Butterflies flutter in my stomach
But then...
They give birth to maggots crawling
Into my heart

A flush brightens my face, I blush
But then…
The fire intensifies
Cremating my heart in the flames

My eyes shine with love for you
But then…
The light grows too bright
And my heart is blinded

I hum a happy melody to you
But then…
The words catch in my throat
Until I’m choking on compromise

My feet tap a happy dance on the floor
But then…
My bones collapse and I fall
Crashing to the ground
Just like my world did
When you left me
