Longings Poem by Edwina Reizer

Longings

How many dreams really come true?
Not too many I'm sure.
You can probably count them on one hand
and not one finger more.
Seems like the ones you wish for so hard
are never in your sight.
You can wish in the morning and in the noon
and while in bed at night.
And you wake up knowing they can't occur
and that they're all in vain.
You think you'd wise up from all of this
but still the wishes remain.

It's time to stop wishing the impossible.
It's time to face the fact.
If you need someone else to fulfill your wishes
you're on the wrong track.
You need to stop hoping for the impossible
and get on with what you've got.
Shut the lights on those wishes
and let your stomach unknot.
