Lonesome Jack Poem by Randy McClave

Lonesome Jack

It's an early morning dawn
The rooster crows and he begins to yawn,
Today for him is just another quest
As he awakens again in the old west.
He puts on his jeans and then his boots
That's all that he owns, he has no ties or suits,
Then as he walks away awakened from the sack
He looks in the mirror and then he sees bearded Jack.

Bearded Jack then straps on his holster
Now his pride he does bolster,
He walks out his room and then down the stairs
As everyone whispers and stares.
He walks out the motel then into the street
As people he is awaiting to meet,
Then when he look at his reflection in the window out back
In the glass he sees the reflection of gunfighter Jack.

Gunfighter Jack then walks into a saloon
It's where all the drifters and the gamblers swoon,
Then he walks up and bellies up to the bar
Where for snacks they have boiled eggs in a jar.
Instead of whiskey he just orders a beer
While looking for his favorite girl to come near,
As he was hoping to see the woman who gave him a smack
Then comes a different saloon girl looking for lover Jack.

Lover Jack then buys the saloon girl a Gin
But, she then ends up smacking him once again,
Then he turns around and heads out the swinging door
As he heads over to the local General store.
In the general store he buys all that he needs
Tobacco, tools and beans and some seeds,
Then on the side of the horse saddle he ties the sack
He then looks in his horses eye and he sees homesteader Jack.

Homesteader Jack then rides to his place
He is not in any hurry, so he goes at a slow pace
After a couple of hours of riding him and his horse takes a rest
Because, they're living in the old west.
Sometimes at the stars at night he will look at and contemplate
As he tries to understand his own destiny and fate,
Then when he arrives miles away to his tiny shack
He looks down his well and then he sees lonesome Jack.
