Like Grass Poem by Malibongwe Mfiki

Like Grass

Go ahead set me alight
watch my pasteur go to ruins
see my smoke suffuse the air
under the starry evening's glare
stain my hue charcoal black
and hope my green fades for real
hear me out if you will
there is no sin in lack
nor in having still
I'm not asking for acceptence
I just need you to let me be
heed me not if you will
that is also valid still
Don't give me the Gospel niether
I've heard that a million times
I'm not a rag that needs saving
nor am I sinner
I'm just an imperfect being
flung in the cosmos ring
all I have is human nature
and conciousness abound
Don't tell me that the earth is round
for I may believe you without reason
rather let me live and learn
till I scale right out of prison
As far as the moment goes
It rains and its lovely so I cry
because I know she cries for me
Do not hand me handkerchiefs
Don't try to comfort me
With your stories of streets of gold
The only gold I know is hers
Do not pray mother nature
weeps no more
without her tears I'll lose my core
I know her grace, right now I look in trance
everyday I stand in awe
In her drops we bath and dance
for her love still fills the nile
and her smile
comes in rays
