For You Poem by Malibongwe Mfiki

For You

All I wanted was to hit a high.
reach a peak with you, build
a heaven, erect a golden staircase to
your temple, insert an entrance
put a door, cut a lock imbed it in
the palm of my hands so I can be
the only one that holds a key to
your shrine.
Encrypt every hallway with mystical
jargon that no seer or prophet nor
even the learned of this century can
ever begin to unravel or decipher
I'd even put a map, naked and blank
with no direction that not even
a columbus would dare creep to your
shore
In the heart of it all I'd place an ark,
burn incense, I'd be the servent candle
and you my hanukkah I'd be the start and
cause for you and if you fancy I'd become
a self kindled fireplace, a burning bush for you
my ashes your resting place I'd be the first and
last for you.
