Life Is A Play Poem by Leah Ayliffe

Life Is A Play

Rating: 5.0

I need something else to do
Than sitting here with Ella, singing the blues
I want something more to say
Than how I wish to fly, fly away
There seems to be no dreams in their skies
Just thunder without the bang
Lightening without electricity
Why do you think it's so hard to say good bye?
Surely it's just a beautiful melody

I pray for you to find a way
One that is different from yesterday
I love for you to love again
To come back around a truer, happier man
‘Cause kid, we were just ice-cream and lemonade
Singing loud like summertime
Living secrets in dark hours
You and I living life like a play
Walked the world like we owned loves great power

A play is just a show that has to reach The End
You had the starring role, my sad tough man
The curtains closed after the final scene
My gorgeous baby, why'd you have to be so mean?
Our lemonade dried up into lemons, hard & yellow
Like the Cinderella tale of pumpkins
Turning into magic carriage rides ‘til midnight
I can't even speak your name, hello hello?
You cut the string and favourite coloured bows off your pretty kite

I need something new to do
Than sitting here with Billie, singing the blues
I want something more to say
Than how I wished to fly, fly away
‘Cause flying high in November skies is not how I imagined being free
Without the beating drum of thunder
Without the shine of dazzled lightening
I float in empty space, searching for its' electricity
Listening to the violence in your voice soften to a sighing

I get tangled in the clouds
I get tangled in your mind
I get bruised, roused, confused
Stirring mindlessly in time

I get tangled in the clouds
The wind destroys what's left
I drown into the airy mess
I drown, I've lost my breath

It's ok that you couldn't save me
Why'd you turn around and leave?
It's alright that you weren't so nice
The gambler in you kept on rolling the dice
You slipped somewhere under where I didn't belong
Where I go blind into darkness
And I can't hear a sound
I sing as loud as I can our one little song
But the notes only reach the ground

The concrete is not kind, it will not return the noise
Like you, like you not returning my hellos
I was scared and then alone inside
Roll the windows down, it's a long long ride
I miss you kid, I miss you good and bad
It's a sad affair when a kiss leaves a mark
Your gangster love was a lot of fun
A thrill and I told you, you had a crazy flare so rad
I can hear sirens in my mind, is that why I run?

You put the gun in my hand, I pulled the trigger
You called me your number one and nothing seemed bigger
My hands are clean and you can plainly see
My mascara is the only thing bleeding on me
I will get out of this desolate place
I went in alone, you know
Streetlights play along the skyline
Outside the insanity of our fast car race
Start your engines, it's about time to leave the traces of my old mind.
