Life In Death Poem by Soubhagyabanta Maharana

Life In Death

LIFE IN DEATH

Soubhagyabanta Maharana

Never I am fraught with fear
For the icy hand of death
That clasps me vigorously
Choking my primordial emotion
And shattering my youthful dreams.

Death is not so ferocious
As people say when reality bites
To delineate the birth-pang of a life.
It is neither cold nor adamant
To dampen the spirit of warmth and joy.

It is a platform so shabby
Yet so-often visited by others
Where I have to catch a train
Of eternity and anxiety
To reach the world of silence and solitude.

If death is a beautiful valley
Then I shall roam in surging sensation
With my sweet heart
Amid the cheers and chirpings
Of birds of coloured plumage
The migratory winged guests of time
And their soulful songs.

Death like an anaesthesia
Benumbs me, embraces me, enchants me
To relieve me deeply
From the clutches of agony
And from the wear and tear
Of the dismal day’s melancholy moments
That herald a signal
and surrealistic welcome
Of death in life
And life in death.
