Let's Get That Spotlight Off Poem by Mark Heathcote

Let's Get That Spotlight Off

Let's get that light off
I don't understand their love or hate.
I don't understand why they holler or vent
I don't understand their adoration or their animosity
Let's get that spotlight off
I want to wear a mask
I want to hide tonight amongst the gargoyles
Find out -really, what's going on deep inside
Sing a song that springs alive
Lifts my soul
Oh, beautiful life, what a torment it is.
To fall in love with you and realise by the morning,
Nothing will be remembered except a blackbird singing in the rain.
Assignations to meet a king she'll believe in once again.
Let's get that spotlight off
And remember to love me
And remember to love me
And remember to love me when all the lights go out.
