Kinanthi (Womanhood) Poem by Ahmad Shiddiqi

Kinanthi (Womanhood)

Rating: 5.0

(dedicated to Ms. Katia Labeque, a talented pianist)

Anoman mlumpat sampun
praptêng witing nagasari
mulat mangandhap katingal
wanodyâju kuru aking
gelung rusak awor kisma
ingkang iga-iga kêksi

search
for lights
for independence
restless

Pitik tulak pitik tukung
Tetulake Jabang bayi
Ngedohaken cacing racak
Sarap sawane sumingkir
Si tulak manggung ing ngarso
Si Tukung ngadhangi margi

Giggling baby
Adoring child
Caring mother
Loving father

Padha gulangen ing kalbu
Ing samita amrih lantip
Aja pijer mangan néndra
Kaprawiran dèn kaèsthi
Pesunen sariranira
Sudanen dhahar lan guling

Not eat much
Not sleep much
To reach balance
In inner and outer

(inspired by Édouard Manet 's Nana)

Selamat makan my friend for serving us your poetry. I´d wish i went to the pasar malam this weekend to get a sense of indonesia again. Well maybe nextyear att the pasar i´ll be there and think of you. This is the only indonesian i know but i can learn more given time. Divine greetings from Friesland Boomfriend Ruerd
