Just To Stand Still Poem by illinois haze

Just To Stand Still

Walk upon the worn roads of our fathers with open toed shoes
read what the gospels wrote with a flick of their hand
in a solemn state of inspirational whispers from the one who fights for us upon our shoulder
under His breath find comfort and cause.

Let your eyes take in memories and honorable wars
wars that let us sleep
wars that allow us to take in the stars and stripes
study the black and white photos to bring them to color
make your autograph bold upon the parchment of time
shed a tear for the crosses laid among the green hills
remember as men but move on as children.

Laugh with what makes you laugh
forget the images and your bags of worry
under the humble stars
among the jealous moon
with the recklessness of the water and the subtle touch of sand
stand still
stand still to think not of whats past or whats to come
stand still to appreciate our simple surrounding of the here and now.
