Journalism Versus Poetry Poem by john tiong chunghoo

Journalism Versus Poetry

journalism
it is an
attempt
to pin down
the world

to put onto
the paper
the truth of
everything
the world
and the
people in it

children
boys, girls,
men, women
gays or lesbians
kings, queens
rulers and the ruled
the privileged
and the persecuted

usurpers
liars and
the evil ones
though may
make use
of its power
to take
everybody
down a
different lane
to achieve
their own
goals

poetry
it is opening
the floodgates
to let loose
whatever
is pent up
in the hearts of
them all

to let the
soul in them
come out
so that
reporters
can go
chase
rainbows

COMMENTS OF THE POEM
Sidi Mahtrow 24 February 2008

how sad it is that journalism is not what it pretends to be for it cannot be dispatching truth when in the eye of the beholder, truth is nothing but a fragment of that persons view, a fragment that more time than not is not truth. not what it is but what it pretends to be. s
