‘Sang dakot na kanin, sang kurot na tuyo
Pandagdag na laman sa tiyang kumukulo
Naglalarawan ng api’t abang buhay
Ng nagdadalita’t sa lahat ay kulang

‘Sang dakot na kanin, ‘sang kurot na tuyo
Huli’t katapusan sana niyang subo
Hindi niya dinampot, hindi niya kinain
Nang sa kanyang tabi ay kanyang mapansin
Ang ‘sang batang payat, gutom at gusgusin
Ang pisngi ay humpak, mata’y nanglalalim

“Sang kurot na tuyo, ‘sang dakot na kanin
Sa sustansiya’y salat, lasa ay wala rin
Sa tiyang kumukulo ng nagdadalita
Bagay nang malaki at isang biyaya
Sa batang putlain niya’y ibinigay
At nama’y inabot ng nginig na kamay
Sa kanyang pagsubo ay gahul na gahol
Sinasagisag ang matindi niyang gutom

‘Sang dakot na kanin, ‘sang kurot na tuyo
Dadamputin na lang, di pa isinubo
Sa halip ito pa’y kanyang ibinigay
Sa kanyang kapuwa na wala at kulang
Ilan pa kaya ang niya ay katulad
Na kahit na kapos ay bukas ang palad
