Inside To Outside Watch Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Inside To Outside Watch

Inside to outside watch.
From windows to peek.
With eyes stretched opened wide.
Sheltered in shells.
As if snails moving slowly.
From one locked door to another.
In homes without bars.
But not unlike prison cells.

Blinded in mind.
Unable to sleep.
Or keep peace within reach.
Outside of themselves they watch.
For signs of it.
To begin and start.

Inside to outside watch.
Young people being harrassed.
For nothing more than being young.
By police assigned to monitor them.
Within their own neighbors to watch.
Patrolling seeking quotas.
But not discreetly.
They have agendas to meet.
And easily this is done to do.
When deciding to profile on urban streets.

Inside to outside watch.
Few are committed to do this in suburbia.
Land of dope dealers.
And where drug peddlers leech.
Children of those from the upper class.
Rich in corruption.
And leaders who legalize deceit.

Inside to outside watch.
Behind walls of gated communities,
Are hired guards protecting...
Those who make wholesome impressions,
Of being utmost and righteous.
With envied integrities.
Dignified in appearance.
But profiteers of their decadence.

Inside to outside watch.
Are the children taught and made to believe,
What they see to learn and value.
Is not for them to .
Receive or send.
Regardless of the reality,
Created with it teased.
But told they must,
Ignore and disbelieve...
What they know is available.
Accessible. Quick and easy to receive.
If inside or outside to watch.
