Inevitable Togetherness Poem by Mike Griffith

Inevitable Togetherness

Rating: 4.5

Rain,
I quiver as you gather,
and when we're together
I thank God for connecting us.

Rain,
inundate as you may -
I am inspired by your power,
by your solidarity.

But even as you fall over square mile vastness,
you still find one another through effortless attraction.
God's great plan rekindles your togetherness in short order:
Regrouping, congregating, pooling, flowing, seeping,
and then cycling back to His atmospheres -
to become close once again.

This inevitable togetherness -

just as God intended,

is beautiful.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Note about 'Inevitable Togetherness': I so often find myself isolating from others when depression or anxiety creeps in. It is so unhealthy and self destructive to become isolated, but I find it so VERY difficult to reach out when I am hurting. Being around others, I believe, is what God intended, and is so vital to mental and spiritual health... and ultimately is crucial to physical health and happiness. I am working on this... and am getting better at NOT seeking out the dark closet when I am hurting. I wrote the above piece as I waiting in my car for a men's group to convene. It was raining so hard that I hesitated leaving the car, and truth be told I was more content to sit in isolation than to go be among others. The rain gave me a peace - as I've always loved a good storm. I watched the rain fall and come together in streams and somehow, 'Inevitable Togetherness' popped into my head. I occasionally get out of my own way just long enough for the beauty of nature to show me the way. After writing it down I did get out of the car, and like the raindrops, I found my way to the others.
