In The River Poem by RIC BASTASA

In The River

when the wind finally
drains the water
from the pond when the sun
dries all that is left
of the drops
the fish shall die and
the moss shall wilt and
the crabs and earthworms
shall perish

except the mud and stones
their silence shouts for joy
now is their turn to know
heat and warmth
