In The Name Of An Illiterate (On The Eve Of World Literacy Day) Poem by Bijay Kant Dubey

In The Name Of An Illiterate (On The Eve Of World Literacy Day)

The conspiracy of
Keeping her
An illiterate,
Uneducated
I can now understand it
How she was kept indoors,
Under house-arrest
To do the household works
Which but she feeling it,
how she was kept, befooled
To be an illiterate
Unable to read, write
Take even the name of
Her husband,
Not allowed to step out of doors,
The Lakshmanrekha of her courtyard,
She a woman,
An Indian woman
Under patriarchal society, hegemony!
