If In God that we trust
Then tell me, why don't we,
Those words just turn to rust
And then become so lonely and empty.
We say that this we will do
But, of course we don't,
We speak them as those words are true
But, to practice them we won't.
When we carry a knife or even a gun
We prove that we have no faith in God,
And when a victory by us is won
Does the Lord even get our thanks or even a nod.
We say and preach those faithful words
And we see them almost everywhere,
But, then they fly away like startled birds
When another person's shoes we tear.
Many will walk frightened down the street
Tell me, where is that trust,
Their faith is then in their own two feet
As a uncertainty enters like a wind's gust.
Our lives could be so honest and believed
If our words were truly a must,
If the Holy Spirit and faith we had received
Then we could honestly say, in God we trust.
