In A Tree

Rating: 5.0

Sitting up in the climbing tree brings a little bit of peace, away from the hustle and bustle of life. The warm afternoon sun contrasts well with a cool, pleasant breeze. It peeks through the soft green of the tree’s leaves, sending a warm, dappled light across the observer. Through the leaves can be seen the brilliant blue of Southern California’s October sky, like a jewel stretched across the length of the heavens. Even the rough bark and dark contrast of the tree’s limbs fits well in the scene. A hummingbird hovers and chirps its disapproval of the intruder, completing the picture of serenity. Outside, life goes on. Cars rush by as commuters return to their homes, run errands, or whatever it is that causes them to hurry by. All the world is in a hurry to get somewhere. Yet in the cool green circle of the tree, there is still a little peace.

This is my first try at what you might call poetic prose. I'm not sure if it's technically poetry.
